Lower Mainland Basketball Facility
Aug 30, 2008
The Lower Mainland once again has a prestigious basketball facility! With Gold’s Gym’s purchase of the old Vancouver Grizzlies training facility in Richmond, BC at Silvercity Riverport, basketball in BC once again has a place to call home. Set to open in Decemeber 2008, Gold’s Gym Richmond will be the exclusive home of the PEEL Basketball League (www.peelbasketball.com). The state-of-the-art facility will include the use of the practice court the Vancouver Grizzlies used for the PEEL’s games. Also in the facility will be over 40,000 sq. feet of workout equipment, a training centre for martial arts, hot tub, sauna and steam rooms, exercise classes and a ladies-only. When the Grizzlies’ Centre was first opened up, it was a staple in the basketball community for those who were looking for a place to play outside of community centres and high schools. Alongside Gold’s Gym Richmond, the PEEL can return the facility to its glory days by allowing the gym to be a destination for people young and old. Gold’s Gym Richmond shares parking lots with Watermania, the Richmond Ice Centre, the Zone Bowling and the brand-new Holiday Inn Express. Eateries in the complex include Subway, Big River BrewPub, the Old Spaghetti Factory and all of the kiosks inside the Famous Players Silvercity movie theatres. The PEEL Basketball League fulfills the area’s need a sporting venue for adults who want to stay active through competitive sports.
